Peter — Pedro to plenty of the members he represents — Antonio Alvarado is a 33-year Teamster and a Business Agent at Local 25. A first-generation Teamster, he built his standing in this union the way it's meant to be built: through the work, over decades, earning the trust of the members and the responsibilities that come with it.
His career runs straight through the heart of the package industry. Peter serves as the I.B.T. Package Division Eastern Region Representative and sat on the UPS New England Supplement Negotiation Committee in 2023 — a seat at the table on one of the largest contracts in the country, fighting for the language that decides what a UPS Teamster's day looks like. When UPS management crossed the line and harassed an elected shop steward, Peter took the case to the National Grievance Panel and won — a result President Mari publicly commended, and a message to abusive managers everywhere that Local 25 members will not be bullied.
The members have sent him to represent them at the highest levels of the union: I.B.T. Convention Alternate Delegate in 2021 and a full Convention Delegate in 2026. Closer to home, Peter co-chairs the Teamsters Local 25 Hispanic & Black Caucus — building a union that looks like the workforce it represents — and he's a graduate and Trustee of the Local 25 Tractor Trailer Driving School, helping open the door to Teamster careers for the next generation of drivers.
His book runs across the local's working heart — package, public safety, healthcare, linen and facilities services, and industrial units alike — from UPS and the Nashua Street Jail officers to East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Milton CAT, and the crews at Century and Crown Linen. And like the local he serves, Peter shows up beyond the bargaining table — as a member of the Teamsters Local 25 Autism Committee and a familiar face at the events that make this local a family. Thirty-three years in, the work is still personal.
